04-26-2017: EOS and 3YOURMIND presented the AMPI tool for automatic identification of parts suitable for 3D printing
AM Part Identifier was created in response to one of the key challenges faced by companies seeking to adopt 3D printing
On April 26, 2017, EOS announced a partnership with 3YOURMIND to develop a new tool – the AM Part Identifier (AMPI). The software was presented during the Hannover Messe, the world’s largest industrial trade fair, and was designed from the outset to help companies transition to additive manufacturing technologies, while optimizing production processes and increasing profitability in the era of Industry 4.0.
The AM Part Identifier was created in response to one of the key challenges faced by companies seeking to adopt 3D printing – the difficulty in determining which existing components were suitable for additive manufacturing. Many manufacturers manage enormous parts databases, containing hundreds of thousands of components, with thousands of new items being added each month. The analysis was tedious, manual, or required expensive third-party services.
AMPI enabled the automation of this process: users could input basic information about the parts from their inventory, and the software would scan the database and identify the elements best suited for additive manufacturing. Based on over a decade of experience from industry experts, the tool offered fast and accurate analyses, contributing to significant time savings and cost reductions when implementing 3D printing.
Thanks to its ability to integrate with parts databases, AMPI also allowed for real-time updates. This meant that every new part or any change in 3D printing technology parameters would automatically influence the production recommendations generated by the system.
The collaboration between EOS and 3YOURMIND had a strong foundation not only in technology but also on a personal level. Dr. Hans Langer, the founder of EOS, played a crucial role as an investor supporting the growth of 3YOURMIND. His financial and strategic involvement in the young company significantly contributed to strengthening the cooperation and the creation of the joint solution. Langer, as one of the most influential figures in the world of 3D printing, had long promoted the integration of advanced software with additive technologies, which was directly reflected in the AMPI project.
Today, in 2025, the AM Part Identifier software operates under the name "Part Identification" and is one of the flagship products of the company. It remains one of the foundational elements of modern systems for optimizing production processes using additive manufacturing technologies.
