On May 13, 2024, I posted my first ever “On this day on 3D printing…” article on LInkedIn. It was about publishing a breakthrough story on my former portal - 3D Printing Center, which brought me wide recognition in Poland.
The LinkedIn article was made quite spontaneously, and never in my life I would imagine how it will turn my life around. Anyway, this is the original post from just a year ago…
My dear colleagues, my dear friends - I have hereby decided to start a new series of articles! I will post interesting facts from the 3D printing industry that happened on a given day a year or a decade ago.
As a history nerd, I was the first (and so far only) to write down the official history of the Polish 3D printing industry, which was published a few years ago in the 3D Printing Center. While creating it, willingly or unwillingly, I also wrote down all the most important facts about the global industry, but there are so many of them that only few made it into the final article. This time, however, I will try to describe everything I can. While doing preliminary research yesterday, I already know that I will probably not run out of content...
And I will start the series with myself!
Well, 12 years ago - on May 13, 2013 - my actual career in the 3DP industry began. Although the 3D Printing Center portal was created in January that year, hardly anyone visited or read it in the first months. To be fair - it was planned. My idea fixe was that we should not "go out into the world" until we have published at least 100 articles. I believed that only after this time my writing style would be developed and I would have such reasonable knowledge about 3D printing that I would not be ashamed to present myself to people as an author. Ultimately, I didn't reach the hundred mark, but I only missed a few articles...
On May 13, 2013, I published an article about the infamous 3D printer - Buccaneer from Singapore's Pirate3D. The printer was offered at an absurdly low price for that time ($347) and promised incredible features (but as we all know it – it failed). On the same day, my article was published on Wykop.pl - the Polish equivalent of Reddit or Digg. The article met with great interest and was read by over 13,000 unique users. To put this into perspective, previously the 3D Printing Center was visited by 5-10 people a day. So quite good progress.
It was my official premiere and the beginning of an adventure that continues to this day.
