05-21-2014: Sculpteo launched its 3D printing store on Amazon
It was the second platform of this type that Amazon added to its digital 3D printing marketplace
On May 21, 2014 Sculpteo - then one of the growing online platforms providing 3D printing services, opened its store with 3D printed models on Amazon. It was the second platform of this type that Amazon added to its digital 3D printing marketplace - two months earlier, in March 2014, it added 3DLT as a partner.
Sculpteo was founded in 2009 in France as one of the first digital platforms for the growing 3D printing market. In 2014, the company offered 3D prints made of 45 different materials, colors and finishes, including silver, alumide, as well as various plastics.
The key to success was quick order fulfillment and excellent customer service. Initially, it offered 37 different products on Amazon - from rings, through iPhone cases, to drink coasters - quite typical for those products aimed mainly at consumers.
In 2019, the company was taken over by BASF, already specializing in industrial additive manufacturing.
