06-02-2021: Trilantic North America announced the acquisition of On Demand Manufacturing from 3D Systems and founding QuickParts
QuickParts has become the owner of approximately 200 industrial 3D printers
On June 2, 2021, Trilantic North America – a private equity firm, announced that it has agreed to acquire the On Demand Manufacturing business from 3D Systems in partnership with Ziad Abou who held the role of Senior Vice President and General Manager of 3D Systems’ On Demand Manufacturing business for nearly a decade.
As a result, the acquired services department began to function as an independent company under the name QuickParts. The transaction was formalized on September 21, 2021 and its value was USD 82 million.
QuickParts has become the owner of approximately 200 industrial 3D printers working in virtually all the most important additive technologies - SLA (3D printing from light-cured resins), DMP (3D printing from metal) or SLS (3D printing from polyamide powder). It had five locations around the world: two in North America and one each in Italy, France and England.
Quickparts also had a network of manufacturing partners spread across the globe. Based on historical data from 3D Systems, the company produced 7.5 million parts annually, offering over 75 material options. It also provided traditional manufacturing services such as CNC machining, injection mold tooling and parts manufacturing, and die casting.
3D Systems getting rid of its own 3D printing services department was quite a surprising decision. Just as the company itself was historically the first supplier of 3D printers, its services division was the first 3D printing on demand in the world. The sale was the result of the 3D Systems restructuring plan announced by Jeff Graves, CEO of the company, in 2020.
