06-03-2016: EnvisionTEC released superfast Micro Plus cDLM 3D printer
And introduced breakthrough Continuous Digital Light Manufacturing (cDLM) technology
On June 3, 2016, EnvisionTEC unveiled its groundbreaking Continuous Digital Light Manufacturing (cDLM) technology at JCK in Las Vegas. The new solution has been implemented in the Micro Plus cDLM 3D printer, capable of printing models intended for jewelry casting in minutes instead of hours.
The Micro Plus cDLM offered average build speeds of 10-20 minutes per inch in Z for the full printbed (45 x 28 x 75 mm), depending on the material used. The Micro Plus cDLM featured the same industrial UV LED light engine found in the rest of EnvisionTEC's Micro Plus machines and had an integrated PC with Wi-Fi, and a convenient built-in touchscreen.
Micro Plus cDLM was a very convenient and versatile tool for jewelers and designers. Unfortunately, what was quite controversial was the high price of the 3D printer, which was a barrier for smaller jewelry companies wanting to use the new technology.
Although Micro Plus cDLM offered significant benefits, not all companies could afford it. Consequently, this opened the way for cheap Chinese 3D printers and the popularization of the 3D printing method based on LCD screens.
