On June 9, 2015, FormFutura – Amsterdam-based filament manufacturer, presented two new wood-like filaments for FFF 3D printers – Olive and Ebony. The materials together with the previously released Coconut, created the EasyWood collection.
All three EasyWood filaments looked, felt and smelled like real wood. Because of their low shrinkage factor, EasyWood were nearly warp-free and therefore weren’t deform after cooling. They also featured a very good interlayer adhesion, and were easy to post-process.
Parts 3D printed from EasyWood filaments could have been post-processed by using a piece of fine grit sandpaper, what highlighted the relief or rough surfaces with different shades.
EasyWood filaments were made up of at least 40% of grinded wood particles in combination with PLA based binding polymers, also used for the EasyFil filaments. EasyWood Olive had brown greenish color which provided a nature moss-covered appearance.
The Ebony variety had the exact same characteristics, and offered a colonial dark brown wood appearance – perfect for classy wooden creations.
