06-10-2014: Formlabs introduced the Form 1+ SLA 3D printer
Form 1+ included dozens of improved components that made 3D printing more reliable
On June 10, 2014, Formlabs announced the launch of Form 1+, a new version of its flagship stereolithography 3D printer. Since launching on Kickstarter in 2012, the company has delivered several thousand Form 1 models to customers around the world. Nevertheless, the device, although groundbreaking at that time, had a number of issues and drawbacks resulting from the early stage of development. The Form 1+ model largely solved them.
Form 1+ included dozens of improved components that made 3D printing more reliable and up to 50% faster, while maintaining high resolution prints. The improved version had, among others, a more powerful second-generation laser system for faster 3D printing, a redesigned galvanometer control system for more precise control, and modified mechanical components for improved durability.
Additionally, Form 1+ was equipped with a special light-blocking resin container that could be stored outside the device. This container also had an overlay for easy management of multiple resins.
On the same day, Formlabs also announced the launch of a new black resin and an update to the PreForm 1.5 software - with the added function of manual support design.
