06-13-2014: Leapfrog released Creatr HS – a fast, dual-head desktop 3D printer
Leapfrog constituted, alongside Ultimaker and Felix, the “Big Three” Dutch 3D printers manufacturers
On June 13, 2014, Leapfrog unveiled Creatr HS, a much faster and more modern version of its flagship 3D printer, equipped with two print heads, Simplify software and significantly increased 3D printing speed.
In 2013-2016, Leapfrog was one of the most popular low-cost 3D printers in the world, constituting, alongside Ultimaker and Felix, the “Big Three” Dutch manufacturers of these devices. The company was founded in 2012, and its roots came from Flexlogics – a leading manufacturer of printing machines in the world.
The first 3D printer model – Leapfrog Creatr came in two versions: with one or two heads. At the same time, the 3D printer set new standards in the area of designing devices of this type - a massive, white construction in a beautiful style, presented itself against the background of other 3D printers like Apple products. Thanks to Leapfrog, 3D printers no longer had to just print - they also had to start looking appropriate.
The key improvement in the Creatr HS was its speed. According to the manufacturer, it printed 5 times faster than the standard version, and all this thanks to Bowden extruders. The maximum 3D printing speed was 300 mm/s. Another novelty was a larger working area, which was a maximum of 30 x 23 x 18 cm with one extruder. The Leapfrog Creatr HS supported ABS, PLA, PVA, nylon and composite decorative materials.
Additionally, the 3D printer was equipped with a 4-inch, full-color LCD display. The connection was made via a pendrive, and the time needed to heat up the table and head, send the file to the 3D printer and start 3D printing was less than 10 minutes - a dizzying speed for those times...
