06-21-2021: Replique and Miele announced partnership for 3D print exclusive accessories
It was one of the first steps towards consumer 3D printing on demand
On June 21, 2021, Replique announced a partnership with German home appliance manufacturer Miele. Replique has acquired the exclusive right to produce and ship high-quality 3D-printed accessories for Miele, using a decentralized production network.
Integrating the Replique platform with Miele’s online shop enabled new products to be brought to market quickly and cost-effectively. Thanks to digital storage and on-demand production, Miele was able to deliver new accessories to customers in small batches.
As part of the 3D4U project, launched in May 2020, Miele provided customers with free designs for 3D-printed accessories. The increase in demand led to the idea of offering these products to customers without their own 3D printers.
With Replique, this idea turned into a scalable business model. Accessories no longer had to be stocked in large quantities, but their designs were stored digitally and produced on demand.
Miele started with three accessories: a coffee clip, a hole cleaner and a valuables separator as additions to its vacuum cleaners, with the possibility of flexibly expanding the range.
