06-25-2015: Spectrum Filaments officially debuted on the market
Today it is the biggest filament manufacturer in Europe
On June 25, 2015, Centrum Druku 3D portal published an article presenting Spectrum Filaments - another new company on the Polish 3D printing market. Although the company itself was founded less than a month earlier, it was the first time the world had heard about it. Today, Spectrum Filaments is the largest manufacturer of 3D printing materials in Europe. And I am very happy that I could be the one who published this article nine years ago and was consequently the author of this debut…
Spectrum Filaments has nearly a hundred types of plastics for 3D printing in its offer – from biodegradable materials, through standard technical, to high-performance with improved physical and chemical properties. In addition to its own, proprietary materials, it serves a whole host of companies for which it creates products under their own brand. It has the fastest manufacturing lines in Europe, and is famous for three things: high quality, a wide range of products and… long waiting times for orders, which is a consequence of the growing number of customers and orders.
Anyway, around the turn of May and June 2015, newly established Spectrum contacted me by email asking if we could meet? I had been running the Centrum Druku 3D portal for 2.5 years and was already quite well-known in the industry. I was the kind of guy you had to contact when you wanted to make a name for yourself on the market... I knew everyone - everyone knew me and what's more, I was happy to help establish contacts.
The company's headquarters was located in Pęcice - a small town located just outside Warsaw. We were supposed to have some meeting in Warsaw, so we agreed that when we were coming back from it, we would also drive up to them.
It was already evening and heavy rain was falling. Although it was the beginning of summer, I had the impression that I was at the end of autumn. The last thing I wanted was to go to another meeting in a micro-city I had never heard of… I called to cancel it, but the Spectrum guys insisted, so somehow we got there in the waterfalls of rain.
I was greeted by two people – Michał Żołądek and his then partner – Tomasz Augustyniak. They invited us to a conference room where there was a table densely filled with snacks, sweets and beers. I didn't drink – the employee I was with did. Overall, I remember the conversation being a bit strange – Michał and Tomasz praised their filaments as the best products in the world, even though they were just basic PLA and the guys couldn't think of any other advantage. However, what made them stand out were the fantastic colours for those times. The then trademark of Spectrum.
I would never have guessed that this inconspicuous conversation would turn into a fantastic acquaintance that has lasted to this day. Michał Zołądek is my dear friend, with whom I have carried out a whole bunch of projects over the years. I am very happy that despite the number of problems he faced, he managed to create such a large and respected company, whose services are used by so many serious brands.
