06-27-2018: DB Schenker has become the world's first logistics service provider offering 3D printing solutions
The company's offer included both 3D printing from polymer materials and metal alloys
On June 27, 2018, DB Schenker announced the offering an extensive 3D printing service. The company's customers could order 3D printing of parts via the online portal eSchenker, where they uploaded a file, selected materials and colors, set prices, placed orders and had the job delivered.
The company's offer included both 3D printing from polymer materials and metal alloys (including those dedicated to the medical industry). DB Schenker did not use its own 3D printers for this purpose, but used a digital business model within a partner network of start-ups as well as established companies.
DB Schenker is an international logistics company, part of Deutsche Bahn AG, a German rail transport company. DB Schenker specializes in supply chain management and offers a wide range of logistics services, including land, air, sea transport, warehousing and distribution.
In 2018, it became the first company of its kind to introduce 3D printing services, automating and shortening supply chains before it became „fashionable”…
