07-04-2017: HP has announced the acquisition of 3D scanning company - David Vision Systems
The goal was to advance its Sprout 3D technology and 3D printing ecosystem
On July 4, 2017, HP has announced the acquisition of David Vision Systems GmbH - a German manufacturer of 3D scanners. At that time, David Systems was a leading manufacturer of 3D scanners and software due to the relatively low prices of the devices and the high quality of their work. HP, in turn, was then taking its first steps in the 3D printing industry.
A few months earlier, it presented for the first time the Multi Jet Fusion technology and Sprout - a computer equipped with a 3D scanning system, intended to form part of the company's entire 3D printing ecosystem.
Despite a really great position on the market, David Vision was doomed to be eaten from the very beginning. HP did not intend to maintain the DAVID brand on the market, but to implement its solutions for HP Jet Fusion 3D Printing Solution platform - specifically the mentioned Sprout.
Sprout was a combination of a computer with a scanner, projector, 3D camera and an innovative tablet replacing the mouse and keyboard. The device was aimed at individual users, and it was possible to design 2D and 3D objects and models in a completely new, more friendly way than before.
Sprout was therefore an entire workstation, offering work via touch - a finger or a stylus. It recognized gestures such as rotating, zooming in, panning and zooming out. Built-in scanners and projectors allowed for quick and natural transitions from the real world to the digital world and vice versa.
Sprout had one problem - few people used it. The product has been expired. David Vision Systems was extinguished along with him.
