07-09-2015: Hungarian Craftbot debuted on Indigogo
It gained $245k, i.e. +613% of the original funding goal
On July 9, 2015, Craftbot (formerly CraftUnique), the Hungarian company based in Budapest, debuted on the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform with its debut FDM/FFF desktop 3D printer. The company set itself a goal of getting $40k, but achieved as much as 613% of this amount, receiving $245k from 570 backers.
Unlike the bunch of other companies seeking their fortune through crowdfunding, Craftbot arrived on Indiegogo prepared, fulfilling orders on time. This also began its decade-long career on the global 3D printing market.
What distinguished Craftbot from other 3D printers of this type was its quite low price of $399 and its solid, sheet-metal design. It contained a very modern for those times 32-bit control electronics and a color touch LCD panel. The 25 x 20 x 20 cm printbed was also just above the standards of the time. Additionally, the company has developed its own software – CraftWare. From the very beginning, the 3D printer was characterized by great simplicity of use and good quality of prints.
The Indiegogo campaign was not the only achievement of the Hungarians - in December 2014, Craftbots were included in the offer of Swiss MediaMarkts, and at the end of 2015, 3DHubs recognized Craftbot as the best 3D printer in the budget devices category, and also awarded it the "Best Plug & Play 3D printer" award in 2017 and 2018.
Today, the company develops six product lines. Craftbot has a strong market position, a network of distributors around the world and its own office in the USA.
