08-10-2015: BigRep has introduced a new version of its large-format 3D printer, the New BigRep ONE
The New BigRep One was much faster than its predecessors but had a laundry list of other major upgrades as well
On August 10, 2015, BigRep, a German manufacturer of large-format FDM/FFF 3D printers, has introduced a new, third iteration of its flagship BigRep One. Called the New BigRep ONE (or the BigRep ONE, Version 3), the 3D printer has had several key upgrades over the previous version.
BigRep was established in 2014, specializing from the beginning in the production of large-format 3D printers, which had an unprecedented build of about 1 x 1 x 1 meter. Although the 3D printers were derived directly from the amateur project RepRap (as the company name suggests), they quickly began to be adapted for industrial production. This month BigRep went public on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The New BigRep One was much faster than its predecessors but had a laundry list of other major upgrades as well. It was equipped with new modular print head able to 3D print models up to four times faster, as well as with filament detection capabilities which paused a job if it detected that the material was about to run out. Additionally the new extruder was able to print support materials as well as multiple colors within a single project.
Big Rep also installed new heated build platform which features auto-leveling capabilities, and brand new touch-panel. The New ONE’s spool holder could house 10kg of filament for extra large projects. As the build area was 1100mm x 1050mm x 980mm, the company recommended working with PLA filaments to avoid warping.
